It’s not an accident that 99% of new income created in the last 5 years went to the top 1%. It’s not an accident that Republicans refuse to accept the reality of climate change. It’s not an accident that the Republican budget calls for huge tax breaks for billionaires.
The lesson here is that our political system isn’t broken, it’s rigged.
The laws are written by politicians to please the corporations and ultra-wealthy, who bought those politicians with hundreds of millions of dollars in political contributions.
We need a political revolution to return our government to be of the people, by the people, for the people.
It starts with taking our country’s destiny out of the hands of the billionaires who want to buy this election. We must overturn Citizens United to get big money out of politics.

Our movement isn’t about how much money we raise, it’s about how many of our supporters are willing to own a part of our campaign.

…a successful presidential campaign is a massive undertaking, and ours will be heavily outspent.
The billionaire class already controls most of our economy, and now they have their sights set on the presidency. Their super PACs are already running ads against our campaign…
…When people look at our public FEC report, I want them to see every single contribution as a demonstration of support for the values we share: health care as a basic right for all Americans, access to a free, high-quality public education, and an end to the insatiable greed of the billionaire class.
Our movement isn’t about how much money we raise, it’s about how many of our supporters are willing to own a part of our campaign.

In this election, there’s going to be a whole mess of shadowy Super PACs funded by the super wealthy for nearly every presidential candidate.
That is, everyone except for our campaign.
The Supreme Court’s decisions in Citizens United and other cases opened the gates to a flood of billions of dollars that threatens to undermine our democracy.
I have led the fight to put an end to the corrupting influence of big money in our politics. What we need now is a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

I am not going to start a Super PAC. I am not going to go around the country talking to millionaires and billionaires begging for contributions.
But those millionaires and billionaires are talking about us.
Just yesterday, a Super PAC supporting one of our primary opponents started running ads attacking our campaign.
Let me be very clear: the disastrous Citizens United decision that gave rise to the Super PACs embraced by our opponents undermines American democracy and moves us towards an oligarchy in which the economic and political life of the country is increasingly controlled by a handful of billionaire families.
Candidly, I did not think their attacks would happen so soon.
