Wukan protest leader becomes village’s Communist Party Secretary – Telegraph

Many cheered the appointment by village Party members of Lin Zuluan, the 67-year-old campaign leader who brokered a deal with powerful government and security officials to end a 15-week stand off last month.

His role as local Communist Party Committee chief is being hailed as a significant victory by many in the 13,000-strong coastal community in Southern China, which has been demanding compensation for stolen land and greater suffrage.
